If a gardener simply gave a plant an intimidating look and barked out a command to 'grow', you'd think he was crazy. So why do we put up with this sort of behaviour in managers?"
Pete's Points:
An interesting article which I will leave my readers to find and read for themselves.
But I have some additional suggestions to the question posed.
Both a gardener and a manager:
- dig around in the dirt;
- rarely call a spade a spade;
- trim things (although one deals with plants and the other with budgets);
- talk about growth;
- always consider prductivity issues;
- have a low tolerance for insects and other pests;
- value the outcomes from being adequately fed and watered;
- boast about things that they participated in helping to grow and develop;
- rush to attribute blame for failure on something or someone else;
- claim to be concerned about the environment
