Channel 4 is to bring mass public masturbation to the small screen.
The broadcaster - once led by Michael Grade, dubbed 'pornographer in chief' by the Daily Mail - has commissioned a documentary about the UK's first 'masturbate-a-thon' as part of a series of programmes dubbed 'Wank week', MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal.
In what must surely be one of the summer's more bizarre events, hundreds of people are expected to gather in a hall in central London on August 5 to pleasure themselves in aid of charity."
Pete's Points:
Whenever I read the news papers I occasionally come across some material that is both bizarre and in my view reflective of the situation that we find ourselves in these days.
As mentioned in other correspondence in the past - the fall of the Roman Empire was preceded by a decline in morality and the provision of 'bread and circuses' for the masses to divert their attention from what was really happening.
Together with reality TV shows and their inappropriate behaviours we now have yet another example of the decline in public morals and public beahviour.
What people do in the privacy of their own homes is their business and so long as they do not force their views or their behaviour on others. I actually respect their right to continue to do so.
However when I see items like this I think matters are finally getting out of hand (so to speak).
If this is the kind of drivel that is broadcast these days then bring back censorship.
